There’s no denying that some exercises are better than others. Any exercise will build muscle fast if you work hard enough at it, but some do it better. There’s good exercises that build bulk and power rapidly.

There’s others that do it a little slower of course. While some are so crumby you’d be starving on your old-age pension before you got the build you wanted. Picking the right exercises is always a problem for the inexperienced bodybuilder.

Generally speaking, the best exercises for bulk and power are the ones that bring the most muscle groups into action and allow you to use the heaviest weights. The barbell squat, in other words, is a whole lot better for you than fiddling around with your PlayStation controller. Always use the big exercises.

The lighter exercises, the ones that use isolated muscle groups, have some value. They’re good as supplementary pumping exercises. They’re definitely inferior, though, if you’re striving for a big, powerful, shapely body.

Herculean physiques and tremendous power are built by heavy weights. If you want a big body, use the big exercises. The big exercises, the best exercises, have a name. They’re called basic exercises. There’s one, and occasionally more than one, basic exercise for each muscle group.

There’s no doubt that arms are the most popular muscle group with the average bodybuilder. There’s also no doubt that very few bodybuilders ever succeed in building the kind of arms they really want. Most of them fail for a couple of reasons.

One reason is insufficient training for the rest of the body. You can’t work just the arms alone and expect really good results. The biceps-triceps combination will never get very far ahead of the rest of the muscle groups.

You must provide stimulation for the arms by using a proper training routine for the rest of the body. Your arms just won’t get very big without it. You have to build muscle all over or you won’t put much on your arms. It’s as simple as that.

After the deltoid, pectoral, abdominal combination, the arms are the next most impressive region. Big muscular arms are indispensable to a herculean body. Actually, arms are not difficult to develop if you go at it properly.

Building big arms is easy if you gain weight. If you bring your weight up it’s just a matter of slapping some of that weight on your arms. But the weight’s got to be there and it’s got to come first.
